Summer Camp for Adults: Our Latest Virgin Voyages Cruise

In March of 2024, Chris and I completed our second cruise with Virgin Voyages. We had two main goals while on this cruise. The first was to show our friend from college, Kathleen Garber, a really good time. The second was to see if the enjoyment that we got from our first Virgin cruise was just a fluke or us wearing rose-colored glasses or if Virgin really is as fun and awesome as we remembered from the first time. Also, we wanted to make sure that we got to experience things that we missed the first time around.

Well, we, once again, had an awesome time. In fact, we had more fun than even the first time. Going with our friend turned out to not only amplify the fun but improved upon it. When it was time for the dance party, Chris could go find something else to do and I was able to keep dancing with my friend. We dominated most trivias that we went to because Kat seemed to know all of the things. We went to Bingo and Kat won, which was awesome. We participated in the photo scavenger hunt. Oh, and we even got our own private karaoke room, which was so much fun.

Chris figured out that the best way to describe a cruise on Virgin is that it is summer camp for adults, and I could not agree more. Virgin cruises have many of the same activities found on other cruise lines but with a twist. Many of the games planned such as trivia, speed puzzle challenge, college games or name that tune required that you have other cruisers join your team. Most teams had a limit of 6 and there was a limited number of teams that could work for each event so you usually needed to combine with other groups in order to participate. Because of this, we met a lot of people and having the bigger groups made the activity all the more enjoyable. Another difference with these events is that with most every challenge, if your team won then, instead of a keychain or highlighter, you would win a drink from the closest bar (nice!). Since there was only one Bingo session during the entire cruise, the winnings for each game were much higher. And, because this was a Virgin cruise, the Bingo was a lot more fun (and it was a lot cheaper!). We had so much fun participating in all of these activities.

As I have stated in my previous articles about Virgin, while the price of their cruises are slightly higher than other cruise lines, after you consider everything that is included then it comes out to be about the same if not much less. We found this once again to be true on this cruise. We had a considerable bar tab that was a booking bonus and so (with all of the free drinks we got from all of the winning we did) we barely had to pay out of pocket for any drinks while on the cruise. The private karaoke rooms on Virgin are first come first served and 100% complimentary as opposed to the $25-35 that is charged on other cruise lines. Sodas are included and you know by now, if you have been reading me articles, that all of the restaurants are included. Kat and I participated in the Grog Walk, which is their version of a pub crawl. This was $50 per person and included 4 different unique cocktails from 4 different bars. It also included fun activities to get to know other cruisers. This was a fun event that came at an extra cost but was totally worth it, especially since due to some sailor loot (OBC) that I had it was essentially included. At the end of the cruise, we had a balance of $65 because Chris went back to the poker table on the last night. That is peanuts compared to other cruises.

We really did enjoy our second Virgin Voyages cruise so much, and we were so glad that we were able to share it with our friend. We would love to have more people join us on our next cruise with Virgin as we know now that it is the more the merrier. Also, I have a feeling that all of the great deals that Virgin offers will not be around forever. As more people are giving them a try, they are able to expand their itineraries and their incentives will likely lessen. If you are considering giving Virgin a try, then I would jump on it now and not wait. Let me know . . .
